Philosophy & Curriculum
The Norwood Cooperative Nursery School offers a
child-centered, teacher-guided pre-school education. The children are
encouraged to grow, create, explore, and to make their own decisions.
The teacher acts as a guide to enhance this growth by creating a
nurturing and stimulating environment with a variety of interesting,
challenging choices. Our dedicated staff members have developed a
program that seeks to foster a positive self-image and to build trust
and friendly relationships.
Parent
Involvement
A cooperative means working together to benefit all;
therefore parental involvement is an essential part of our program.
Parents enrich the school program by assisting in the classrooms and
contributing hobbies, ideas, talents and customs. Parents also
help outside the classroom by serving on the Board of Directors and by
participating in fundraising events or on a committee. The children
love to share their school with their parents. The combination of a
child-centered program with highly qualified and dedicated teachers and
parent participation has contributed to the warm and caring environment
of the school.
Licenses &
Partnerships
The Norwood Cooperative Nursery School is licensed by the
Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).
The school is a member of the Norwood Community Partnerships

County.
The Carol
Lockwood climbing structure
The climbing structure in the 3-year-old classroom was
dedicated to the memory of Carol Lockwood, a former parent and Board
member in the earliest years of NCNS, on Sunday, January 25th 2004.
All of us at NCNS feel privileged to honor Carol in this very
special way. Carol was very dedicated to the school and her early
vision of the “cooperative” nature of the school became the
model that we are still using today.
The plaque, which is mounted on the structure, remembers
Carol as “founding parent, wise mentor, and true friend of
children and the Norwood Cooperative Nursery School”.
