At the Norwood Cooperative Nursery School, we welcome and encourage visits from prospective parents. Exploring preschool settings, and becoming familiar with the differences implicit in various programs, are important steps in determining the best match for your child and your family. In order for the Director to be available to guide you through the school and answer your questions, we recommend an appointment. We also ask that you visit without your child at this early stage, so that you are free to make your observations without distraction.

To obtain further information on any of the programs or to schedule an appointment, please call the school at 781-769-3376 or contact the director by e-mail.

Cooperative Kids

Announcing Norwood Cooperative Nursery School’s New Program

Cooperative Kids!

Cooperative Kids is a weekly program that meets on Friday mornings.  It is ideal for the child who is two years old and getting ready for preschool.  Children have an opportunity to play and have a group experience under the guidance of two NCNS teachers, while the parents participate in a relaxed discussion led by a licensed social worker.

For the children the Cooperative Kids Program will:
•    Introduce peer interaction, social skills in a group setting.
•    Become comfortable with separating from a parent and developing       new relationships with teachers and peers.
•    Participate in play-based activities and projects that will begin to work on pre-academic skills such as counting, colors, language, problem solving and creative thinking.
•    Develop gross motor skills through the school’s playground and outside equipment, as well as teacher-led movement activities.

For the Parents the Cooperative Kids Program will:
•    Have the opportunity to assist in your child’s classroom one day to experience and observe the learning that happens everyday.
•    Participate in a relaxed parent discussion group. Topics and events may include:  “Ask The Pediatrician.”,  presentations from local businesses, Early Intervention Specialists, decorating your home for the holidays, manicures, yoga, nutritionist, getting crafty with your kids at home, musicians and early childhood teachers to give ideas on how to enhance your experience with your toddler, and opportunities to discuss and get advice about parenting topics that been on your mind.

Parents must remain in the building for the duration of this program. In keeping with our cooperative format, each parent will act as “parent helper” in the classroom for one day of the session. If “separation” is an issue, any parent will be free to remain with their toddler until a comfort level is reached.  A nut-free snack will be provided for the children.
